How To Recycle Glue Sticks {Explained!}

By Rebekah Pierce

Did you know that there are many ways to recycle glue sticks? Instead of throwing them in the trash, you can recycle them into new glue sticks or other crafts. In this blog post, we will show you how to recycle glue sticks using a few different methods. Let’s get started!

What Are Glue Bottles And Glue Stick Tubes Made Of?

Glue bottles are most commonly made of plastic. However, glass and metal glue bottles are also available. The type of glue bottle you use will depend on the type of glue you are using.

For example, Elmer’s Glue is typically sold in plastic bottles or tubes, while Gorilla Glue is sometimes sold in glass bottles. Metal glue bottles are often used for industrial applications.

Whatever type of glue bottle you choose, be sure to read the label carefully to ensure that it is compatible with the type of glue you are using.

Can Glue Be Recycled?

Can glue be recycled? The answer may surprise you. While most types of glue cannot be recycled, there are some exceptions.

For example, some companies specialize in recycling post-consumer adhesives. These adhesives are then used to make new products, such as carpet backing and construction adhesive.

In addition, some adhesives can be incinerated to generate energy. So, while most glue cannot be recycled, there are some options for disposing of it in a way that is not harmful to the environment.

How Do You Dispose Of Glue Sticks?

Glue sticks are a popular and convenient way to adhere paper and other light materials. They are especially popular with children, who often use them for school projects. However, once the glue stick is empty, you may be wondering how to dispose of it.

The good news is that glue sticks are actually quite easy to recycle. Most recycling programs will accept them as long as they are clean and dry. To recycle your glue stick, simply remove the cap and cut the stick into smaller pieces. Then, place the pieces in your recycling bin or take them to a local recycling center. Check with your facility for more detailed instructions, of course.

Once the glue stick has been recycled, it can be used to make new products, such as cardboard and paper.

How To Recycle Glue Sticks

There are a few different ways you can recycle glue sticks. Check them out below!

Check With Your Facility

Check with your recycling facility to see if they have a  program for glue sticks. They may accept them, but you might have to dispose of them separately. You can also check with local schools and other facilities to see if they collect glue sticks. The same goes for community recycling centers.

Use TerraCycle

It’s easy to recycle your used glue sticks with TerraCycle’s Zero Waste Box. Just collect your used glue sticks in the box and then ship them back to TerraCycle. They will recycle them into new products.

To get started, just go to TerraCycle’s website and sign up for the Zero Waste Box. Then start collecting your used glue sticks. Once you’ve got a full box, just ship it back to TerraCycle and they’ll take care of the rest.

Check The Brand

Check the brand to see what they recommend in terms of recycling. While Elmer’s no longer has an in-house recycling program, there are other brands, like Pritt, that offer almost 100% recyclable glue sticks and bottles.

Here’s a video showing the glue stick recycling process in greater detail:

How To Recycle Glue Bottles

Glue is an essential part of any arts and crafts project, but it can be difficult to find a way to recycle glue bottles. One option is to upcycle the bottles into handy storage containers. Simply remove the label and wash the bottle out thoroughly.

Once the bottle is dry, you can use it to store small items such as buttons, beads, and sequins. If you’re feeling creative, you can also decorate the bottle with paint or stickers. Another option for recycling glue bottles is to use them as planters. Just make sure to punch a few holes in the bottom of the bottle for drainage.

You can then fill the bottle with soil and plant your favorite flowers or herbs. With a little imagination, you can find many different ways to recycle glue bottles.

How To Reuse Glue Sticks

Is there anything more frustrating than trying to use a glue stick, only to have it dry up and refuse to cooperate? Instead of tossing the glue stick in the trash, here are some tips for reusing it.

There are actually quite a few ways to reuse glue sticks. For example, you can use them to make homemade slime or even create your own temporary tattoos. Empty glue sticks can be used as push pins or makeshift stirrers. You can also cut them into smaller pieces and use them as adhesives for craft projects.

You can even make crayon sticks! First, wash the glue stick with soap and water to remove any residual glue. Next, melt the crayons in a double boiler or microwave-safe container. Once melted, pour the crayons into the glue stick mold and let them cool.

Once they are hardened, you will have new crayon sticks that are perfect for coloring or drawing. Best of all, you can make as many or as few as you need, so there is no waste.

Decrease The Amount Of Glue You Buy

Glue is an essential part of many crafting and repair projects, but it can also be tough to recycle. Reducing the amount of glue you use is one of the best ways to help the planet.

Fortunately, there are a few simple ways to decrease the amount of glue you need to buy. One of the most effective methods is to use scraps of paper or fabric as temporary adhesives. Simply apply the scrap to the area where you would normally use glue, and then remove it once the project is complete. This technique is especially useful for small items like beads or sequins.

Another way to reduce your glue usage is to take advantage of the adhesive properties of other materials. For example, tape can be used in place of glue for many light-duty tasks. Finally, it’s important to remember that a little bit of glue goes a long way. By using smaller amounts, you can often stretch a single bottle of glue much further than you might expect.

By following these simple tips, you can easily reduce your glue usage and save money (and the environment!) in the process.

So there you have it, everything you need to know about recycling glue sticks. Now that we’ve covered the basics, put your knowledge into practice and try recycling some of those old glue sticks lying around.

Not only will this help reduce waste, but it also gives new life to an otherwise unusable product. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even start a trend in your community! Have you tried recycling glue sticks before? What tips would you add? Let us know in the comments below.
